MEET THE DIRECTORS
Amanda Fonner, Director of Bands
Ms. Fonner is currently in her first year as Director of Bands at Richardson North Junior High School. Prior to her appointment at Richardson North, she served as Assistant Director of Bands and Color Guard Director at Canyon High School (2015 – 2018) in New Braunfels, TX. From 2012 – 2015, Ms. Fonner was the Assistant Band Director and Woodwind Specialist at Frenship High School in Lubbock, TX.
Originally from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, Ms. Fonner earned a Bachelor of Music degree in music education with a concentration in oboe from Texas Tech University (2012). She is currently pursuing a Master of Music Education degree through an extended summer program at Texas Tech University.
While attending Texas Tech University, she studied oboe and English horn with Professor Amy Anderson and performed extensively with the Texas Tech Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Ms. Fonner was a three-year member of the Texas Tech “Goin’ Band From Raiderland” where she played saxophone.
Ms. Fonner is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association as well as the Texas Bandmasters Association. During the summer months, Ms. Fonner works with the Texas Tech Band and Orchestra camps.
Lauren Solano, Assistant Director
Lauren Solano is currently in her third year as the Assistant Director of Bands at Richardson North Junior High. At RNJH, Ms. Solano’s responsibilities include directing the Symphonic Band, assisting with the Honors and Concert Bands, and teaching beginner woodwind classes. Previously, Ms. Solano was the Assistant Director of Bands at Tison Middle School in Weatherford, Texas.
A North Texas native, Ms. Solano attended the University of North Texas where she received Bachelors degrees in Music Education and Clarinet Performance in 2015. While at UNT, she studied with Daryl Coad and was a member of the Green Brigade Marching Band, UNT Concert and Symphonic Bands, and various chamber ensembles. Ms. Solano regularly plays with the Carrollton Wind Symphony, a community ensemble under the direction of Jim McDaniel that has performed at TMEA and TBA music conventions over the years. Ms. Solano is an alumnus of Coppell High School and achieved numerous State Honor Band Concert and Marching awards.
Ms. Solano’s professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association, Mu Phi Epsilon Professional Fraternity, International Clarinet Association, and Girl Scouts of America.
