WHEN CAN I JOIN THE VIKING BAND?
In Richardson ISD, all 5th grade students have the option of choosing between Band OR Orchestra as an elective in 6th grade. In April and May of your 5th grade year, all 5th graders are invited to North JH for a concert and demonstration of both Band and Orchestra. After this concert, you will be invited to the Band Petting Zoo to find out which instrument is BEST for YOU!
WHO CAN JOIN THE VIKING BAND?
Any 5th grade student at CCE, NRE, GHE, MOH, or PCE who wants to work hard, make new friends, create music, and be awesome can become a member of the Viking Band. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that our students can participate in and we simply want everyone who wants to be a part of the band to join the family and experience making music together!
WHAT INSTRUMENTS ARE A PART OF THE BAND?
In the Viking Band we offer all 11 instruments of the traditional band instrumentation. They are: Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, and Percussion. DOES BAND TAKE UP A LOT OF TIME?
NO! Band is a class period during your 6th grade year. Band occurs during the school day for 45 minutes and is taught by either a Junior High or High School band director. This will be your first taste of Junior High and you will LOVE it! We have 2 concerts per year and only a few rehearsals that take place after school. However, we will always work with your schedules!
